My hair oil recipe

Hi Pinks,

One of the most requested video on my youtube channel is my hair care routine. One of the most important part of my hair care routine is, oiling my hair. That is the reason for this blog post. I am sharing the exact way I prepare my natural, Ayurvedic inspired hair oil recipe my grand mother passed on to me.

This natural hair oil will add extra strength to your hair and promotes hair growth. It is important to follow it with hydrating conditioner or mask, so it will add more elasticity to the hair to protect your hair from breakage.

What you will need:

Coconut oil ..................................................................................................2 cup

Castor oil ....................................................................................................1/2 cup

Olive oil .......................................................................................................1 cup

Vitamin E oil ................................................................................................1/4 cup

Amla powder................................................................................................2 Tbs

Neem powder or (fresh neem leaves) .......................................................2 Tbs (1/4 cup)

Curry leaf powder or (fresh curry leaves) ..................................................2 Tbs (1/4 cup)

Rose powder or (fresh rose petals)............................................................2 Tbs (1/4 cup)

Hibiscus powder or (fresh hibiscus flowers) .............................................2 Tbs (1/4 cup)

Mehandi powder or (fresh mehandi leaves) ............................................2 Tbs (1/4 cup)

Bhrami powder ...........................................................................................2 Tbs

Tea tree essential oil (optional)..................................................................15 to 20 drops

How to:

  • Heat a dry pan in low heat.

  • Add amla powder, neem powder, curry leaf powder, rose powder, hibiscus powder, Mehandi powder and bhrami powder.

  • (If you are using fresh leaves or flowers, there is no need to fry it before adding)

  • Fry the powders for about 1 to 2 mins in low heat.

Create a double boiler by placing a pan or vessel filled with water and place another pan on top of it. This will help the ingredients to get well integrated into each other and not loose their awesome properties because of the heat.

did you know?: Heating oil will change its properties leaving it not as good as it was before heating.

  • Add the olive oil and mix well with the powders or the fresh ingredients.

  • Then add the coconut oil and mix well.

  • Now add all the other listed oils except the essential oil.

  • Let the oil sit in the warmth of the double boiler for about 15 mins.

  • Take it out of the double boiler and let it cool down.

  • Once it is cooled, add the essential oil and store it in a dark place for at least 7 days.

  • After 7 days, strain the oil using a strainer or cheese cloth.

  • Now your hair oil is ready to use.

  • The sediments form the oil can be used as a hair mask.

Hope you liked the oil recipe. Let me know how you liked it in the comments section. Also let me know if you made it and tried it.
