Hi loves! 💕
One of the most requested videos on my YouTube channel is my hair care routine, and today, I’m spilling the tea (or should I say oil) on one of its most important parts: hair oiling. 💆♀️
This blog post is extra special because I’m sharing my natural, Ayurvedic-inspired hair oil recipe, passed down from my grandmother. It’s more than just oil—it’s a tradition, a ritual, and a love letter to healthy, strong, and shiny hair.
This hair oil strengthens your strands, promotes hair growth, and pairs perfectly with a hydrating conditioner or mask for extra elasticity. So, let’s dive into the magic formula!
What You’ll Need
Here’s your checklist for this hair oil recipe. Most of these ingredients are easy to find online or in Indian grocery stores.
Coconut Oil – 2 cups
Castor Oil – ½ cup
Olive Oil – 1 cup
Vitamin E Oil – ¼ cup
Amla Powder – 2 tbsp
Neem Powder (or fresh neem leaves) – 2 tbsp (or ¼ cup fresh leaves)
Curry Leaf Powder (or fresh curry leaves) – 2 tbsp (or ¼ cup fresh leaves)
Rose Powder (or fresh rose petals) – 2 tbsp (or ¼ cup petals)
Hibiscus Powder (or fresh hibiscus flowers) – 2 tbsp (or ¼ cup flowers)
Mehandi Powder (or fresh mehandi leaves) – 2 tbsp (or ¼ cup leaves)
Bhrami Powder – 2 tbsp
Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional) – 15 to 20 drops
How to Make the Hair Oil
This process is easy but requires a little TLC. Trust me, the result is worth every step!
Step 1: Prep the Powders
Heat a dry pan on low heat.
Add amla powder, neem powder, curry leaf powder, rose powder, hibiscus powder, mehandi powder, and bhrami powder.
Fry the powders lightly for 1–2 minutes to release their natural aromas.
(Tip: If you’re using fresh leaves or flowers, skip this frying step.)
Step 2: Create a Double Boiler
Set up a double boiler by placing a pan or vessel with water on the stove.
Place another pan on top of it. This prevents overheating the oil, ensuring it retains all its goodness.
(Did you know? Overheating oils can change their properties, reducing their benefits.)
Step 3: Add the Oils and Powders
Add olive oil to the powders and mix well.
Stir in the coconut oil and continue mixing.
Add the remaining oils (castor oil and vitamin E oil) except the essential oil.
Step 4: Let It Infuse
Allow the mixture to sit in the double boiler for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
Step 5: Add Essential Oil & Store
Once the oil has cooled, add 15–20 drops of tea tree essential oil (if using).
Transfer the oil to a dark bottle or jar and let it infuse in a cool, dark place for at least 7 days.
Step 6: Strain & Use
After 7 days, strain the oil using a fine strainer or cheesecloth.
Store it in a clean, dark bottle. Don’t throw away the sediment—you can use it as a hair mask!
How to Use It
Warm the oil slightly before application for better absorption.
Massage into your scalp and work it down to the ends of your hair.
Leave it on for at least 1–2 hours (or overnight for a deeper treatment).
Wash with a gentle shampoo, followed by a hydrating conditioner or mask.
Use this oil 2–3 times a week for best results, and you’ll notice stronger, shinier, and healthier hair in no time!
